Tanowa Tomiyama
Alexandra Tanowa Tomiyama, a Ghanaian-Japanese designer, weaves her Afro-Asian heritage into a signature aesthetic that celebrates cultural duality. From sketching manga-inspired figures in high school to designing for actress Yvonne Nelson at the 2015 BET Awards, her work bridges art, fashion, and identity.
She has collaborated with brands like Studio 1981, Tenewaa, Mabel Brempong, Papa Oppong, with collections such as Obaachan and Blue Culture retailing at Elle Lokko in Ghana.
In 2018, she co-hosted “The Creative Minds” pop-up in Accra, and in June 2025, debuted her first Paris pop-up with La Pop Up Galerie.
In 2019, as a member of the Board of Fashion Ghana, she was one of five finalists selected for the Gucci Design Programme.
Today, Alexandra creates sustainable, wearable art that reflects her Afro-Asian roots.
